Everything you need to know about EXOCOAT™ CV
What are the composition and chemistry of EXOCOAT™ CV?
EXOCOAT™ CV is essentially an ethanol-based sol-gel mixture containing specialized sol-gel technology.
On what materials can EXOCOAT™ CV be applied, and how well does it adhere?
EXOCOAT™ CV is designed for use on hard, non-porous substrates that contain silica or glassy surfaces, and it exhibits excellent adhesion on those materials. Its primary targets are glass (all types: automotive windshield glass, architectural window glass, tempered glass, etc.) and glazed ceramics or porcelains (like ceramic tiles, vitreous sanitary ware, glass-coated enameled metal). On such surfaces, ClearView chemically bonds by forming siloxane linkages to the substrate’s surface (glass inherently has hydroxyl groups for the silanes to attach). This yields very strong adhesion – cross-cut adhesion tests show 0% coating removal (ISO 2409 rating 0) on glass and ceramic. The coating essentially becomes an integral ultra-thin layer on the glass. It’s been tested to remain attached even under harsh conditions like thousands of windshield wiper cycles, temperature swings, and water immersion, with no peeling or flaking observed.
What performance benefits does the cured EXOCOAT™ CV coating provide (hydrophobicity, durability, optical clarity, etc.)?
Once cured, EXOCOAT™ CV produces an ultra-hydrophobic, ultra-thin protective layer that is both optically clear and very durable. Key performance characteristics include:
- Extreme Hydrophobicity
- Optical Clarity
- Hardness and Scratch Resistance: Many users report effective performance for 12+ months on car windscreens before a reapplication is considered, and on building glass or solar panels (which are cleaned less frequently), the coating can last for several years.
- Chemical Resistance
How is EXOCOAT™ CV applied, and does it require any special curing or equipment?
Application of EXOCOAT™ CV is simple and does not require any special curing apparatus – it’s typically applied at room temperature by hand or spray. The basic steps are:
- Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is thoroughly cleaned and dry before coating. Remove all grease, dust, or mineral films. For glass, it’s recommended to clean with a good glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol, and if there are stubborn mineral stains, polish them off first. The surface should wet uniformly with water when clean (a quick test) – ironically, you want the pre-cleaned glass to be hydrophilic (no beading) so you know there’s no residual coating or wax. Then dry it completely.
- Application Method: The most common method is wiping it on. No post-curing equipment or UV light is needed.
How does Axcentive ensure batch-to-batch quality consistency for EXOCOAT™ CV?
Every batch of EXOCOAT™ CV is manufactured and tested under strict quality control protocols to ensure consistent composition and performance. Axcentive employs standardized QC tests and specifications that each lot must meet before release.
In what packaging sizes is EXOCOAT™ CV available, and what is the minimum order quantity?
EXOCOAT™ CV (ClearView) is typically sold in small volume bottles suitable for ease of use and maintaining freshness. The standard commercial packaging is a 700 gram bottle (which is roughly 0.85 liters, given the density ~0.82). These bottles are usually made of HDPE plastic or coated metal with special lining to withstand the acidic content. They come with a secure screw cap. For distribution, the bottles are packed in boxes for shipping. Typically, a box might contain 5 bottles (total ~3.5 kg net of product).
Larger quantity packaging is available for industrial customers:
- 5 liter or 5 kg cans can be supplied on request (these would be metal jerrycan-style containers). However, because the product is best kept airtight and used up relatively quickly once opened, many customers still opt for multiple smaller bottles rather than one large can.
- 25 liter (20–25 kg) pails or drums could potentially be provided for a very large application or for repackaging by a distributor. But one must have appropriate facilities for handling and inert gas blanketing such a large container after each use, given the moisture sensitivity. Most use-cases for ClearView (like treating batches of glass) don’t consume tens of kilos at once, so this is less common.
Where can I purchase EXOCOAT™ CV and does Axcentive supply it globally?
EXOCOAT™ CV is available globally through Axcentive and its authorized distributors/partners.
What is the typical shelf life of EXOCOAT™ CV and how should I store it?
EXOCOAT™ CV has a shelf life of 12 months in its unopened container when stored properly. Axcentive recommends keeping it in a cool, dry place between 5°C and 25°C, with the container tightly sealed.
What kind of technical support or services does Axcentive provide for EXOCOAT™ CV?
Axcentive provides comprehensive technical and customer support for users of EXOCOAT™ CV, ensuring successful adoption and use of the product. Key support offerings include.
Is EXOCOAT™ CV compliant with regulations like REACH, and what is its VOC content?
Yes, EXOCOAT™ CV is compliant with major chemical regulations (including REACH in the EU) and is free of any prohibited substances.
What hazards are associated with EXOCOAT™ CV and what precautions (PPE) are required?
EXOCOAT™ CV is classified as a hazardous substance due to its flammability.
Essentially, handle EXOCOAT™ CV like you would handle a flammable solvent simultaneously. This means combining the PPE and care you’d use for each hazard. Many users treat it similarly to how they would handle a glass etching solution or a concentrated cleaner – with gloves and goggles – and also treat it as if they’re handling a bottle of acetone or alcohol – with respect for ventilation and ignition sources.
How should I store and dispose of EXOCOAT™ CV or its waste?
Storage: Store EXOCOAT™ CV in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from any sources of ignition. Ideal storage temperature is room temperature or below (5–25°C).
