What is EXOCOAT™ AC?
EXOCOAT™ AC is a hybrid sol-gel, chromium-free conversion coating designed for high-performance corrosion protection of aluminum and demanding alloys. It is compliant with aerospace standards and provides a safe, environmentally sound alternative to traditional chromium-based systems.
Is EXOCOAT™ AC an end product or a formulation component?
EXOCOAT™ AC is primarily an end product, intended to be applied directly to metal substrates as a conversion coating or as a micrometer-thin primer under conventional organic coatings. Formulations with curing agents can be made, please contact us for more information.
What are the main benefits and features?

On what substrates can EXOCOAT™ AC be applied?
It is designed for aluminum (including 2024 and 7075 series), stainless steel, galvanized steel, phosphated steel, and iron alloys. It is especially suited for demanding environments and industries such as aerospace and automotive.
How is EXOCOAT™ AC applied?
By spray (conventional low-pressure, high-pressure airless, or airmix); Dipping, rolling, or brushing for small parts or complex geometries; For best results, apply direct-to-metal and overcoat with epoxy or polyurethane systems if required.
What pretreatment is required?
Common pretreatments, such as alkaline wash and acid etching are recommended.
What are the recommended curing and drying conditions?
As 1K: Force cure at 90°C for 1 hour; As 2K: Mix 75 parts EXOCOAT™ AC with 25 parts APTES by volume; pot life is 3 hours; Room temperature cure: Surface dry 15–30 minutes; Touch dry (overcoatable) 30–60 minutes; Hard dry 3–4 hours.
What is the typical film thickness?
EXOCOAT™ AC is designed for micrometer-thin films. Typical dry film thickness is less than 10 µm for conversion coating applications.
What is the shelf life and storage advice?
Shelf life: 12 months (unopened, original container, 5–25°C, dark conditions); Store in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed, away from direct sunlight and ignition sources.
Is EXOCOAT™ AC safe and compliant?
Chromium-free (no Cr6+ or Cr3+); Compliant with RoHS and REACH; Classified as flammable and corrosive: H225, H314, H317, H412; Use appropriate PPE: chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and good ventilation.
