Walls
EXOCOAT™ 151B is a self-cleaning, exterior coating powered by nano titanium dioxide technology, delivering up to five years of outdoor durability. It keeps surfaces clean and protected, even after repeated washing, thanks to its light-activated continuous protection. Designed for porous substrates it can be used on stone constructions, concrete and rendered walls. It eradicates organic dirt and enhances water sheeting for easy maintenance. Application is simple and versatile, with spray methods ensuring an invisible yet effective finish. Trusted by industry leaders, EXOCOAT™ 151B meets rigorous regulatory standards and is supported by Axcentive’s commitment to innovative chemistry.
Air purifying ceramic filters
EXOCOAT™ 151B is a photocatalytic nano-titanium dioxide coating that transforms ceramic foams into highly effective air purifiers by breaking down formaldehyde, VOCs, and other pollutants. Its porous structure allows air to flow freely, trapping and annihilating contaminants as they pass through the coated foam. Laboratory tests show that EXOCOAT™ 151B-coated ceramic foams can reduce formaldehyde concentrations from 750 ppb to zero in just 30 seconds under UV light. The coating is easy to apply by dip, spray, or spin coating, and can be cured at room temperature or up to 600 °C for robust, long-lasting performance.

Everything you need to know about EXOCOAT™ 151B
What is EXOCOAT™ 151B?
EXOCOAT™ 151B is a ready-to-use, water-based, doped nano-titanium dioxide sol-gel coating designed for self-cleaning and air-purifying applications. It is especially suited for porous substrates such as concrete, stone, rendered walls, roof tiles, and ceramic foams. Activated by light, it creates a superhydrophilic surface that breaks down organic dirt and enhances water sheeting for easy cleaning.
Is EXOCOAT™ 151B an end product or a formulation component?
EXOCOAT™ 151B is an end product, intended to be applied directly to the substrate as a topcoat.
What are the main benefits and features?
Keeps surfaces clean by breaking down organic matter (dirt, VOCs, NOx, bio-pollution); Resistant to repeated cleaning and weathering; Easy and versatile application (spray, dip, roll, brush); Activated by light for continuous protection; Up to 5 years outdoor durability; Water-based, low VOC; Superhydrophilic effect for water sheeting; Quick drying at room temperature.
On what substrates can EXOCOAT™ 151B be applied?
Porous substrates such as concrete, stone, rendered walls, roof tiles, wood, and ceramic foams/filters.
How is EXOCOAT™ 151B applied?
Spray application (conventional or rotary bell) is preferred for uniform, invisible films. Dip coating is used for ceramic foams and filters. Brush or roller can be used for large, rough, or vertical surfaces. Wiping is not recommended for porous substrates.
What are the recommended spray parameters?
Nozzle size: 0.8–1.2 mm; Pressure: 3 bar; Distance: 20 cm; Passes: 2–4 for mineral substrates. Rotary bell: 50,000–70,000 rpm; Dress pressure: 1 bar; Vortex pressure: 0 bar; Speed: 0.4–0.6 m/s; Flow: 50 mL/min.
What is the drying and curing time?
Dries to touch in a few minutes at room temperature. Full cure outdoors: ~4 hours at room temperature before exposure to the elements. For ceramic filters: oven dry 2 hours at ≥120°C or air-dry 24 hours if no oven is available.
What is the shelf life and storage advice?
Shelf life: 12 months (unopened, original container, 5–25°C, dark). Store cool and dry, tightly sealed, away from direct sunlight and freezing.
What is the mode of action?
The coating is activated by visible or UV light, generating free radicals that break down organic matter and pollutants. The surface becomes superhydrophilic (contact angle <10°), causing water to sheet and carry away dirt, while also supporting air purification by breaking down VOCs such as formaldehyde.
How durable is EXOCOAT™ 151B?
Up to 5 years outdoor durability.
Is EXOCOAT™ 151B safe and compliant?
Not classified as hazardous under EU CLP regulations. Contains nano titanium dioxide (anatase). Compliant with major regulations such as REACH, TSCA, AICS, and CEPA.
What personal protective equipment (PPE) is recommended?
Use chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection during application. Ensure good ventilation, especially when spraying. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full guidance.
What packaging sizes are available?
5 kg drums (most common), 25 kg drums, 200 kg metal drums.
